Sitting is the New Smoking: Posture and IQ
We often think of focus as purely mental, but your brain is a physical organ that requires blood flow. When you sit hunched over a laptop for 8 hours, you constrict your diaphragm and reduce oxygen flow to the brain.
Studies have shown that "slumped" posture leads to more negative thoughts and lower confidence, while upright posture increases testosterone and reduces cortisol.
The 30-Minute Reset
You don't need a standing desk to fix this. You just need to break the static hold.
- Set a Timer: Every 30 minutes, stand up.
- The Doorframe Stretch: Put your arms on a doorframe and lean forward to open your chest. This counteracts the "hunch" of computer work.
- Eye Level: Raise your monitor so the top third of the screen is at eye level. This aligns your neck and spine.
Power Posing: Before a difficult call or task, stand like Superman (hands on hips, chest out) for 2 minutes. It sounds silly, but it biologically alters your hormonal state for confidence.
